报告人简介:Stuart Hillmansen received the Ph.D. degree in Imperial College, London, UK, in 2001. He is currently a Reader in Electrical Energy Systems in the University of Birmingham. He also is the head of the Traction Systems Research Group within the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE).
Dr Stuart Hillmansen has coauthored or co-edited more than 91 technical journals and conference papers. His research interests include advanced railway power system, hybrid and fuel cell rail, smart driven. The main achievement since Dr Hillmansen joined Birmingham is to have re-established the University’s international reputation for traction research, and to have produced fundamental research which has a direct and current benefit to the railway industry. Dr Stuart Hillmansen has led the development of HydroFLEX, which is UK’s first-ever hydrogen-powered train running on the mainline. He has also developed the DriveSmart product with Ricardo Rail to provide enhanced control strategies for drivers to achieve energy-efficient operations. It has been successfully implemented by Edinburgh Trams since 2019 and received a Highly Commended award in the Best Environmental and Sustainability Initiative category at the Global Light Rail Awards.
讲座内容简介:Energy and environmental sustainability in transportation are becoming ever more important. In Europe, the transportation sector is responsible for about 30% of the final end-use of energy. Electrified railway systems play an important role in contributing to the reduction of energy usage and CO2 emissions compared with other transport modes. For example, for metro transit systems with frequently motoring and braking trains, the effective use of regenerated braking energy is a significant way to reduce the net energy consumption. This presentation introduces the research outcomes that the University of Birmingham railway research team has achieved, including the development of the multi-train traction power network modelling methods to determine the system energy flow of the railway system, the development of an integrated algorithm to solve system energy-saving problem, which takes both train movement and electrical power flow into consideration.
