Alumus Ding Rong-jun Won 2019 Ho Leung Ho Lee Award

On November 18th, the 2019 annual award ceremony of Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation was held in Beijing. Present at the ceremony were Liu He, vice premier and Members of the Political Bureau; Zhang Chun-xian, vice chairman of the National People’s Congress standing council; Wan Gang, vice chairman of CPPCC and president of China Association for Science and Technology; Zhigang Wang, minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. Professor Ding Rong-jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and deputy director of NEEC has also won a HLHL Award.
Being a renowned scientist in the research of AC transmission system, Academician Ding Rong-jun has been worked on the road of independent innovation of AC transmission technology for more than 30 years. His transmission control systems, traction converters and train control networks have been used extensively in locomotives, high-speed EMU, urban rail vehicles and electric vehicles, which have made an indispensable contribution to China railway and yielded remarkable social and economic benefits.
HLHL Foundation was founded by patriotic Hong Kong financiers Shanheng Ho, Leung Kau Kui, Tian He, and Guowei Lee in 1994. Being the biggest non-governmental award foundation of science and technology, the foundation gives awards to science and technology workers who have made outstanding contribution to China’s science and technology. There are three awards “Science and Technology Achievement”, “Science and Technology Progress” and “Science and Technology Innovation”. The awards are given annually and enjoy a high status and reputation in China. A total of 56 distinguished scientists were honored this year. Among them, one was awarded "Science and Technology Achievement", 35 were awarded "Science and Technology Progress" and 20 were awarded "Science and Technology Innovation".
