On April 21, 2021, the opening ceremony of two Railway industry science and technology innovation bases, namely "Advanced Energy Traction and Comprehensive Energy Saving Railway Industry Key Laboratory" and "Operation Safety and Security Railway Industry Engineering Research Center", was successfully held in Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU). Among them, "Advanced Energy Traction and Comprehensive Energy Saving Railway Industry Key Laboratory" was built by the School of Electrical Engineering.
President Yang Dan of Southwest Jiaotong University, academicians Qian Qingquan, Lu Chunfang, and Ding Rongjun of Chinese Academy of Engineering, vice president Feng Xiaoyun of Southwest Jiaotong University, deputy inspector Feng Shuangzhou and Deputy Director Liu Xiaodong of National Railway Bureau, the other leaders attended the opening ceremony. Also present by leaders of School of Electrical Engineering were President Chen Weirong, Party Secretary Luo Qianchao, Director Gao Shibin of National Engineering Technology Research Center for Electrification and Automation of Rail Transportation and Vice President Ma Lei, He Xiaoqiong and Chen Minwu. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Ping, President of the Institute of Science and Technology Development.
"Advanced Energy Traction and Comprehensive Energy Saving Railway Industry Key Laboratory", led by Professor Feng Xiaoyun from the School of Electrical Engineering, was selected as one of the first batch of Railway Industry Science and Technology Innovation Bases by theNationalRailway Bureau. The key laboratory is jointly constructed with the CRRC Industrial Research Institute Co. Ltd.
President Yang Dan firstly welcomed the arrival of experts and scholars, and expressed his gratitude to the National Railway Bureau, which has been providing enthusiastic assistance to the university development for a long time. Conscientiously implementing the decision and deployment of the Party Central Committee, closely focusing on the regional economic and social development and national strategic needs, SWJTU has been actively responding to the deployment and arrangement of National Railway Bureau to carry out the layout and construction of scientific and technological innovation bases in the national industry, relying on the School of Electrical Engineering and the School of Transportation and Logistics to successfully declare these two innovation bases. President Yang stated that the school would make efforts to fully support the construction of the two bases in terms of policies, funds and resources, and take the platform construction as an opportunity to make new and greater contributions in the future!
Deputy inspector Feng Shuangzhou mentioned that it is the first year for the country to implement the "14th Five-Year Plan" and to start a new journey of building a comprehensive socialist modernized country. National Railway Bureau thoroughly implements the decision and deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, carries out the layout and construction of the scientific and technological innovation base of the railway industry, and strives to bring together all scientific and technological forces with their respective advantages. In December 2020, National Railway Bureau granted the first batch of 17 railway industry science and technology innovation bases, including 7 key laboratories and 10 engineering research centers.
Finally, Feng Shuangzhou anticipated that the key laboratories and engineering research centers would enhance the sense of mission, responsibility and urgency of innovation and development, focus on promoting advanced energy traction and comprehensive energy saving, operational safety and other related technology research, scientific and technological research and engineering applications, strive to become a national innovation base as soon as possible, to make a greater contribution to the development of high-quality railways.
After the ceremony, the first plenary session of the first academic committee was held successively. Academician Ding Rongjun, director of the academic committee, presided over the meeting, and Prof. Feng Xiaoyun, director of the laboratory, reported on the construction plan of the laboratory. Experts at the meeting fully discussed and made suggestions on the planning of the laboratory in the next five years.
