The IEEE PES General Meeting on Power and Energy will be held in Denver, USA, from 17-21 July 2022. Professor Junbo Zhao, a 2012 graduate of ourSchool, received the IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award for his great contributions to dynamic state and parameter estimation of power systems, physical information fusion learning and uncertainty analysis, and cyber security of power systems.

The IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award recognizes members under the age of 35 who have demonstrated outstanding leadership or made outstanding engineering contributions to the activities of the Power and Energy Society. IEEE PES selects only one recipient from its worldwide membership each year. Professor Junbo Zhao is the fifth Chinese to receive this award since its inception in 1988.

Prof. Junbo Zhao  currently serves as associate Director of the Eversource Energy Center and assistant Professor of Electrical and Computational Engineering at the University of Connecticut. He received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2018 under the guidance of IEEE Life Fellow, Professor Lamine Mili, an internationally renowned scholar in power systems. During the summer vacation of 2017, he worked as an intern in Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Currently, he is a presidium member of several  IEEE PES committees and working groups. So far, he has published more than 140 high-level journal and conference articles, including more than 70 articles in IEEE Transactions, 6 articles highly cited in ESI (Top 1%), one ESI Hot Paper (Top 0.1%). He is an associate editor and domain editor of 8 international top journals IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, etc. His research interests include power system state and parameter estimation, physical information fusion learning and uncertainty analysis, power system dynamic stability and network security. He  has won more than 20 international awards, including 2021 IEEE Transactions on Power Systems Best Paper Award,2021 IEEE PES Outstanding Volunteer Award,2020 IEEE PES Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award,5 best conference paper of IEEE PES General Meeting 2019-2022, 2021 IEEE PES Technical Committee Working Group Recognition Award for Outstanding Technical Report, etc. Besides, he was awarded the 2021 Stanford University Lifetime Impact Top 2% Global Scientist.
